Modest dressing is not necessarily boring or forsaking fashion if you know how to put together the items with a bit of accessories if you like to enhance the look. It would result in fashionable, sleek and elegant modest fashion that goes from casual to chic with just some accessory changes.

Are There Any Modesty Rules?

I don't think that there are any set modesty rules or characteristics. What may be modest to one may not be to other. In addition, our bodies are different so each one of us looks differently in the same clothes.

But, there are general ideas of modest style in line with Islamic values. Among others are:

• Body should be covered except for the face and hand


• Loose fitting clothe


• Long tops


• Material should not be transparent
  

But should you want to wear fitting cloth or short tops, you could layer it with long jacket or outerwear for added modesty. Similarly with transparent material, wear inner underneath to suit your hijab style.

• Low neckline blouse or dress - wear matching top underneath


• Tight clothe - layer it with jacket or coat. Alternatively, buy one size bigger of your actual size


• Transparent clothe - wear inner or body suit underneath


• Short top - wear jacket or any type of outerwear


• Tight pants or skirt - wear longer top or tunic or 'short' caftan untucked that covers bottom, or wear loose pants or skirt
