The style of thobe differs slightly among the various regions within the Gulf. In Morocco, the sleeves are shorter giving the appearance of a long T-shirt , locally called gandora. The neck tends to be more open compared to that of Saudi thawb and more often embroidered like the chest pocket.

The sleeves and the collar of a thawb can be stiffened to give a more formal look. Following the sunnah, the length of the thobe should be shorter than the ankle.

The most commonly colour for a thobe is white especially for people in Saudi Arabia. However, any other colours like light grey, brown, green and maroon are also common for many Muslim men.
